On today's episode of On The Spot, we sit down with Cameron Cruse, the co-founder R. Riveter, a company founded by military spouses for military spouses.
R.Riveter provides remote employment opportunities for military spouses from all over the country. Cameron Cruse faced a problem common to those who marry into the military: it's hard to find a job and build a career when your partner's military service require relocating frequently. So she teamed with fellow military spouse Lisa Bradley to put people like themselves to work making high-end handbags. Cameron met Lisa when both of their husbands were stationed in Georgia. They'd heard about the Create Jobs for USA campaign, which sparked their business model. They started in 2011 and created a Kickstarter fund in 2014, helping their hobby grow into a full-blown enterprise. In 2016, the two women pitched the idea on the popular show Shark Tank, and the experience helped teach them how to keep their momentum going. In 2017, the company's net revenue was $2.3 million.
