About this Episode

Being a woman in film is nothing short of challenging. Nicole Dorsey knew she wanted to be a director since she was a child, but she's experienced her fair share of adversity in the film industry.

Growing up, she wasn't aware of too many female directors to look up to. She worked quite a few different jobs both in front of and behind the camera before taking a seat in the director's chair. But most of all, Nicole wants to tell stories for every voice, because "it's hard to become what you can't see".

For more on Nicole and her latest film visit:

"It feels like it's a label so that everyone can pat themselves on the back now for talking to me. Or like I have a special waiver to enter into a space because I'm a woman. And I don't feel like it's a special waiver, because I've worked over a decade to get to where I am now. It wasn't like I was able to walk into the door simply because I'm a woman." [6:00]
